View Full Version : Gorillamaxx alternatives

What alternatives are there to gorillamaxx battery straps and motor mount (except stock) which fit the G2. I've broke about 2 pairs of straps and bent my motor mount while bashing and racing, and I haven't even been bashing hard, like, 6ft jumps into thick grass when the motor plate went and the straps breaking were just from the car rolling in races.
Any suggestions?

Where did you bend the gorilla motor mount?you can use both the small plates for one motor. The traxxas machined motor mount is pretty sturdy,5mm thick i think. The carbon gorilla straps are supposed to be alot stronger than the velcro ones.If your able to fabricate stuff then making a rear support for the motor with the gorilla mount would make it alot stronger.

Is it also possible to double up on the straps? Two sets of straps per battery pack?

the strap design is poor, i keep snapping them too. I used the 1" wide version and they lasted for 2 minutes.
Two options;
kyosho twinforce batteriecups
associated batterie cups.
I use the last mentioned, because they are adjustable to more than 14 cells.

25 grams lighter than the kyosho aswell.

I use double straps on my trucks. A single strap tends to break, but double straps haven't failed me yet(even doubling the old straps worked great - doubling the new straps works perfectly and is very reliable).

Double as in on top/next to eachother, parralel? or crossed?

I put 2 sets of straps in the g-maxx strap mount location - one tightens to the front and the other tightens to the rear.

I use the straps and also some bongo straps I picked up from Home Depot. They're the rubber band straps with the piece of wood on one end. I had a problem with the batteries always slipping out on crash landings. Since I've used this setup. They never come out and are cheap to replace. I think they came in a bag of 20 or 30. I can take pics if anyone whats them.

I too have snapped two sets now. I have some new ones on the way and will use Mike's suggestion adn let you all know. I run 16 cells, so that's a lot of weight. If Lipo is that much lighter, than snapping one set won't be as easy, but will run the two on my 16 cells and see how that goes and let you all know. Should work fine though.

They carry them at the Home Depot and Do It Center out where I live. They're called "Bongo Ties". I guess because the wooden piece looks like a bongo.

Is that a Spektrum Telemetry on there?
bluonyx

Yup, BP-Revo gave me the idea of using it to watch the voltage for the Lipos.
I tried wiring it to one of the packs directly but fried the telemetry reciever. So I got a new one and monitor the voltage to the BEC instead. I also like how it monitors the motor temp as well.
I have it setup to vibrate at 145F, but with the new 6.5HV in it I never get above 120F with 70/13 gearing. I should get it up and running this week to monitor the speed as well. Just have to figure out the "roll out" to program it.

You might want to try out the new 4.5 motor. It's supposed to be alot faster. I heard it was faster than a 9L on 12 cells...

I'lll have to look into that. Thanks squeeforever. Tower has it listed for arrival mid September.

9L on 12 cells isnt that fast though :027:
Pitty I live across the ocean, those lil bongo straps look ideal.
I'll just wait and order more G-Maxx straps on my next order. Forgot about them the other night :024: .
