Trying to find a suitable match for my buggy and was wondering what the diameters of the 1515 and 1512 motors are with and without the fins. The Neu website say ~40mm D, but is that the smooth or finned??

Finned is 1.72 inches in diameter.

Thanks. So, I guess that means the smooth ones are about 40mm then...

Thanks. The finned version will be a VERY close fit on my buggy using 46T/14T. Purely for space concerns, I'm thinking about getting the smooth Neu motor and securing a heatsink on top (where there's plenty of room). I might have to take a better look at glassdoctors' buggy sometime...

EDIT Scratch the heatsink idea. The Neu motors are larger in diameter than a typical 540 can, so they won't fit. Hmmph.

Brian if you are concerned about the motor rubbing on the diff outdrives, that's not a problem. I ran a 10 or 11 (don't recall exactly now) and it did rub on one fin a little but anything 12 or larger doesn't.

And the rubbing wasn't a big deal.... just dremel a little spot on the first one or two fins and it fits just as a well as a smooth can.

Brian,

I am doing a conversion right now as well and had an issue with trying to squeeze the smooth Nue Motor in where I wanted it just because of the larger than standard dia of the Nue Motors. I talked to Mike and he was able to get me a ''thin wall'' smooth can which should be a little smaller in diameter. I haven't gotten it yet, (probably next week) so I don't know exactly how much smaller it would be than the regular smooth can, but the extra mm or 2 will help me squeeze it in without a bunch of other mods that I didn't want to have to do.

Anyway, Not sure if this will help you, but I just thought Id throw it out there in case it could make the diference for you.

Glassdoctor: Thanks for the info. I'm going to go back through some of these threads to see if I can't find a pic of your setup to see, especially the larger buggy you did (Jammin?). To approximate the motor size, I'm using a empty TP roll to test fit (don't laugh) and it looks like it will be a really close fit. Mainly, I was worried about the fins hitting the outdrive, but also the rear of the motor hitting the rear angled brace on my H8.

Jhautz: Do you have any fairly detailed pictures of your setup? I'm wondering how glassdoctor could fit a finned motor and you had trouble with a smooth version. There must be something different with the center diff holder or something...
