I ordered one from Tower last night, but it still needs to board the plane to Germany. Thought about getting that new Toro Beast ESC, but reading how SkyRC seems to have screwed up the accompanying software, made me choose for XLX, although I have seen the XL2 getting a bit hot in Othello's Carson Dirt Attack - which is same car I'll be using it in. Castle's datalogging keeps being one of the big selling points for me though.

Any feedback about the exact differences between XL2 and XLX (besides the obvious BEC, Aux settings and Caps), Patrick? How much more capacitance did you add compared to XL2?

remembering the mamba max that with a big fan could sometimes run 5s all day.but the specs said 3s max........hummmm:-) who want to void the warrentee first?

also 30 pounds max? that eliminates a brushless losi 5ive. But not my losi 5ive buggy:-)

That's an apples to oranges comparison. The mamba max had components with voltage overhead.

In the XLX the components are optimized, and voltage over 6s will pretty much immediately blow the caps.

No over volting these guys.

8S.

Slightly off-topic here, but the new MMX might have some Voltage overhead, Lizard's MMX factory bench log on it showed it was tested up to 32V input; that was without throttle though (see below). My MMX FAT logs were just ~6S, so not sure what's the deal there. Does anyone happen to know the FET rating of the MMX?

I've heard people running the 1/10 Sidewinders on 4S too, which seemed to work if a UBEC was used. Would be nice if MMX could be run on 7S without too much added risk.

Yep, I meant 8s. Brain fart.

Mine arrived from across the pond.

Didn't open it up to check the inside caps, but the new XLX front caps are 2x1500uF instead of the 2x680uF of the XL2. The integrated cappack is 4x820uF. So, assuming internal caps are still 2x560uF like with XL2, total capacitance is 7400uF, compared to 2480uF of XL2, that should produce some manly sparks!

Although the added cappack seems like a bit of an afterthought, I think it looks pretty decent (at least better than when I'd have to add a bunch of caps myself) and the added length doesn't matter for the car I'll be using this in. Compared to the MMX, the AUX wire is not a single 4th wire, but an additional 3-wire connector, that, if I interpret the warnings correctly, also helps distributing the onboard BEC's power - and as a result, also needs to be unplugged when using the link.

Haven't had time to finish car yet, work/career ramping up at expense of playtime. Will get it up and running eventually and post results :).
