Question upgrade questions - 06.22.2005, 10:45 AM

I'm runninig a 9L on 14 cells at the moment in my maxx.
Which is fine for ripping up the common (park;) ) but I have started racing it now in the unlimited MT class.
Its fairly quick through the infield but the top end just can't match the BB Nitro's.
I am running 51/16 and if I gear up it won't finish the race. It also melts the solder off the 4mm tubes
As i'm using the dreaded 18.97. So I don't want to push it too much.
What are my options,
I would be happy to run 16 cells or 18 at a push as I'm using the BP torpedo chassis.
I want to keep the strobe as well so could you recomened the pinion sizes too.

I see you stock the proline shocks, can you get the stiffer spring set??

thanks in advance
:D

perhaps you'll find the answer in lipoly.. Or a 10L on 16 cells.

Mike can deliver the stiffer springset. There are two variatons of the stiffer spring set. The stiffest types or the stiffer types. First called are black and white. the others come in packs of 6.. (you need to order both the upper and the lower spring.) with the stiffest springs, you'll get 2 long ones and 2 short ones. (takes two sets to complete the front/rear)

thanks for the reply Serum.

The jury is still out for me on Lipoly. Its the 'catching fire' bit that still bothers me........with my luck !!!

10 L on 16 cells.....will that be significantly more powerful?

Now I do realise that Mr Shulze is probley not on your Christmas card list, but do you think the 18.97 will handle the XL with 18 cells or will I need a bigger amp controller?

sorry 'bout all the questions.......but if you don't ask, you never know :D

I would take BK over Schultze any time! Especially on 2-pole motors I don't see a reason for Schultze.

I was told already the 99amp Warrior could handle an XL, but I haven't tried it myself.

the 10L on 16 cells is more power. (it differs about 200 watts) The XL has got more torque though. You can run the 7XL on 16 cells, did you ever considered that?

Pushing the 18.97 to the limmit is not my favorite activity.. hanging an XL on it and 18 cells has got something possitive against a plettenberg; it are 2 poles instead of 4, so i think it should work out fine. (controller only need to 'work' at half speed against the 4pole plettenberg) A person on this board uses a 7XL on 18 cells with his 9918 controller.

And feel free to ask, not a problem at all.

I had considered the 7XL on 16 but wondered about runtime.
will it be less than on 18 cells?

I guess the gearing will become very critical,
what would you suggest the max pinion size should be for the 7XL on 18 cells Serum,
I use a 51t spur, UE diffs and 40 series wheels.

On 18 cells, it is possible to achieve a longer runtime, if you are not too enthusiastic on the throttle. You have got more energy in totall.

The gearing.... well.... For bashing use, i would not gear it higher than a 14 pinion with the 51 spur.. (gearing ratio of 17.8:1 in 2nd) about 45 mph/65 km/h speed) for speedruns you might ad a tooth, but keep an eye one the temps! And i suggest to use a fan on the esc.

16 cells on an xl2400 or 10L would give you serious power and a decent runtime. No problem to keep up with the BB MTs, either. The 18.97 should barely get a workout with either of these setups, either. Just make sure your wires are short and your solder joints are sound.
