I had more probs w/the CD than w/the Slipper eating bearings ?

knock on wood but im still running the original one that came in my platinum and it was an early platinum too. but id rather see the 8x16x5 as its a very strong bearing and the most common bearing in r/c.

If your still running the original I would strongly suggest you at least check if you haven't, you'll save yourself the PITA of ordering a few cheap parts and down time if you catch wear now. WHen the bearing goes it'll take other parts with it with the heat it'll make(found out myself the hardway)

just had it out the other day when i put the slipper in to get better drive out if the corners. seemed perfect to me. ive checked it often because so many guys have trouble.

Then you are of the few whom are lucky ?
Have you made some sort of shield to help debris from getting to the bearing from the top ?

no shields, didnt seal the front, nothing. i do clean my car and do proper maintenace nothing special.

altough i cant keep diff bearings in my 808 10 spec for the life of me.

Have the original in my slash too..... Makes me think it might be better to replace it with a larger one before it causes any problems. Don't remember off the top of my head, did this require any mods other than the larger bearing?

@ rootar, went back to the slipper as well, like you said it seems to pull harder on exit than the cd on my setup.

Disreguard the mod Q did some reading

well im gonna turn the stock bearing spacer down to 8mm and the stock mount out to 16mm and walla i shall install 8x16x5.....

Why don't you want to use the 10X19X5?

FLM originally did their mount with the 8X16X5 but changed to the 10X19X5.

When this came up I did calcs on the bearing volume (as a quantitative way to compare size). The original 10X15X4 has a volume of .392 CC, the 8X16X5 has a volume of .753 CC, but the 10X19X5 has a volume of 1.02 CC (CC - cubic centimeter).

So the 10X19X5 is 33% bigger ((1.02 / .753 * 100) - 100) than the 8X16X5. Plus, if you use the 10X19X5 you only have to modify one part and everything else remains standard, stock, and easily replaceable.

its not the volume its the diameter of the balls in the bearings and how far they have to travel each revolution of the bearing. not gonna go into detail because im on meds right now but basically a smaller outter diameter bearing with the same size balls as a bearing with a larger outer diameter will not have to travel as far per revolution which means less wear and load on the bearing, which is reason to choose the 8x16 over the 10x19 as it should last longer.

Well the Boca bearings I used to replace the two 4x4's slipper bearings are working flawlessly. After each race session I take that end of the truck apart anyway so I inspect and clean the bearing, still smooth as butter.
