Dual Revo 3.3 BL conversion build-up - 11.26.2007, 10:49 PM

Hi, me and my brother are currently working on getting Revo 3.3 rollers off ebay and converting mine to single BL and his to 1 or possibly 2 motors. So I thought I'd start a thread on all the shananigans.

Got the first roller off ebay for 250 a couple days ago, it even has the RC monster mount already on it, full RPM arms, battery straps, and apperently locked into 2nd gear too! I'll have a mamba 4600 in it for quite a while, then I want to run a Feigo 8XL on 4s 4400 mah cells on it, does anybody know what kind of runtimes and gearing I should get on this set-up? Im thinkin' some 1st gear action and small pinion with mamba; and 2nd gear medium pinion with 8XL. Too bad I won't have a pinion for it until RC monster gets some of those 1/8'' in stock.

I'm not too sure but I think a mamba 4600 is too small to run in that, its meant for smaller 1/10th scale vehicles i.e. stampede

The MM4600 is the only motor I have right now for it. I've been running it in my rustler, so I'm not expecting anything higher than 25mph. My budget won't allow a good motor for quite a while.

i run a 9xl on my revo. and its a little bit better then the 8xl cause it runs cooler and longer. i run my gearing at 19/36 with 4cells and its pretty fast. if you race i would get the center diff.

If you run it in the revo you may turn it into a paperweight.

Yeah, i'm not sure if I can gear it low enough, especially at 60k rpm... but I do have a temp guage, so I won't allow it to overheat. Plus I don't mind if my Revo doesn't break the 20mph barrier, at least not for another 4 months. My brother's Revo won't be quite so lame i'll bet. Okay, so heres the plan: run it in 1st gear and buy the smallest 1/8'' mod1 pinion.

I'd listen to Dafni - Maybe run it in your basement but not worth spending $12 on a mod1 1/8th pinion.

You'd be better off getting the $50 together for a 9xl.

Yeah, maybe I will just wait several months until I can conjure up the 130 bucks and buy a motor and 5mm pinion, and not even waste $12 on a pinion for crappy ol' Mamba Max.

Well...

You could give it a try on 11.1v (3s lipo), 14.8 (4s) will spin the motor too fast and cause alot of heat. You can get a 9t pinion from century and use one of mike's bore reducers so that it will fit on the 1/8 shaft of the 4600. With 40/9 gearing it would top out at 30mph in 2nd gear, so it may be ok. Here is the copy of briang's speed calc so that you can see what I used to get the numbers:

Differential Ratio: 2.8461538461538462
Transmission Ratio: 2.2941176470588233
Other Ratio: 1
Spur Tooth Count: 40
Pinion Tooth Count: 9
Total Voltage: 11.1
Motor KV: 4600
Tire Diameter (inches): 5.75
Tire Ballooning (inches): 0
Motor Current Draw: 0
Motor coil Ω: 0
Spur/Pinion Ratio: 4.44 : 1
Total Ratio: 29.01961 : 1
Tire Circumference (inches): 18.06 inches (458.83mm)
Total Motor Speed: 51060 RPM
Vehicle Speed: 30.1 MPH (48.35km/h)
Effective Speed Rate: 2.71mph/V (4.36kmh/V)
Effective KV Value: 4600
Motor Torque: Amperage not specified...
Final Torque: Amperage not specified...

dont you think that gearing is a little tall? what temp do you get and how much does your truck weigh.

if I were you I would definatly wait until you have enough money to get a feigao. going from a standard to an xl motor, the power difference is amazing, and you will beable to gear higher. IDK about 19/36 high but definatly higher than 9/40. If you must go with the 4600 for a while you could try it on 4s if you have a 4s battery.. I hear a lot of ST guys running there 4600s on 4s and I havent seen any problems.

19/36 isn't that tall because the 9XL spins so slow, even on 4S. It has the torque to move the truck quickly without a problem (with a 2-speed) and get good top speed as well. Without a 2 speed though, you may want to gear lower to have a better range. I'm running 18/36 with a 9XL ad my motor temp has never gone above 160's and the ESC and battery are under 120.

I plan to run 17/36 with a 8XL to start, then maybe 18/36 when I get a 9XL.

I wonder if it would be possible to put a Rustler 48p spur and pinion on the revo somehow? Then I could be geared 15/86. No problem for the mamba 4600 then...
